Admin Team Training Program

An Adoption Program to Help Train Users

Chb pillars top
Have you been interested in climbing the ladder around here? Helping out the wiki as more than just a regular user? This program can help you do that. Learn the ropes, the rules, what is expected out of being more than just a Level Five, and all while under the help and supervision of another Helper or member of the Admin Team.

Intro

Once a user reaches Level Five, they may start to wonder what else there is. There's no more auto levelling up after that point, but perhaps you'd like to actually work your way up on the wiki in more of a helper capacity, and not just as a roleplayer. That can be a bit intimidating for some, and maybe a bit overwhelming. Where do you go, how can you help, where can you help, what's allowed and what's not allowed.

We started the Official Wiki Helpers group to help users slowly learn how to move their way up and get to start helping, but we've decided that there is even more we can do. So we the Admin Team Training Program will be like another version of the Adopt a Newb program. Only instead of Level Five users adopting entry level users, this will be for Chat Mods, Official Helpers, Rollbacks, Admins and Crats to adopt Level Five users.

If this program sounds interesting to you, as either someone who wants to adopt and train others, or someone who wants to be adopted and trained, please keep reading. :)

Full Details About The Training Program

So we've told you a bit about what this program means and what it will do, so here's the full length explanation. A lot of you by now know how the Adopt a Newb program works. A user who is at least a level five (or a member of the Admin Team), offers to adopt users who are only at Entry Level, and take them under their wing up until the point they hit Level Five (roughly five weeks). Doing so successfully gets both the Adoptee and the adopter incentive rewards.

This program is going to work similar to that of course as users don't "automatically" level up to positions of power, it will have to be re-worked a bit. This program will essentially take over where the Adopt a Newb program leaves off.

Now this program doesn't mean that in order to apply to be an official helper, or to run for a higher position like Rollback or Admin, you have to go through this program. This program is here to help guide users and train the properly to handle higher positions will of course greatly increase a user's chance of successfully getting the positions. However, perhaps you were formerly an Admin but had to step down because you had to go inactive, obviously you already know how to do the job, so whether or not you wish to use the program is entirely up to you.

It also doesn't mean that if you are already an official helper, chatmod or part of the Admin Team, that you have to help out with this. Whether or not you wish to adopt and help train users to move up here, is entirely up to you.

With this training program, we will also monitor how much you help way more than we do with Adopt a Newb. We won't be giving out the rewards if it's clear that you and/or the user you adopted did little to no edits in the process, as that defeats the entire purpose of the training program.

Rules for Participating
  1. If you are an Official Helper, Chat Mod, Rollback, Admin, or Crat you are automatically a part of this program, whether or not you choose to participate however, or when you participate, is entirely up to you.
  2. Who you are allowed to adopt, varies on your current position:
    1. Official Helpers can only adopt Level Five's
    2. Chat Mods can only adopt Level Five's looking to become Official Helpers, or Official Helpers looking to run for an open Chat Mod position (only if a chat mod position is available)
    3. Rollbacks can adopt either Level Five's looking to become Official Helpers or Official Helpers or Chat Mods looking to become Rollbacks.
    4. Admins and Crats may adopt Level Five's looking to become Official Helpers, Official Helpers looking to become Chat Mods or Rollbacks (if positions are available), Chat Mods looking to become Rollbacks or Rollbacks looking to become Admins.
    5. Now it's VERY rare that a Crat position opens up, but if a Crat were looking to step down and needed a replacement, they could use this program to adopt an Admin and train them for the position.
  3. You should have something to show for your work, either notes on their claims, or messages on their talk page, and the user should actually vouch that you helped them.
  4. The user you adopt also needs to have work to show for their effort. This program isn't just about teaching a user their way around the wiki, this is about training the future generation Admin Team Members, this is very important work. If a user is serious about being adopted and trained to move up into positions of power, then they must be prepared to follow all the requirements that goes along with those positions. For instance, an Official Helper training to become a Rollback has to be prepared to get the minimum edit requirement for the Rollback position (which is at least 3 department edits a week or 6 every two weeks, of course if they have time for more it is encouraged and appreciated).
    1. What are "Department Edits"? They are pretty much any edits that aren't personal. Personal edits would be things like your own personal roleplays, editing your own personal character pages, templates or user page, or even personal correspondence on talk pages. (Non personal correspondence on talk pages would be things like notifying users of important updates, helping them with things, asking for updates, giving out warnings, etc.)
  5. You will stay with the user you've adopted for a period of four weeks, at the end of the four weeks, if it is successful they can either apply for Official Helper status, or go to the user rights request page and request rights. The mentor may also be the one to nominate them in the user rights request page, if they feel so inclined.
  6. You must be signed up on the page here to count, and you must have the user you adopted listed as well in order to receive rewards
  7. If you are unsure how to fill this out, or have any questions how it works please contact either Demi or Bach for assistance.
Redemption for Users Demoted

This will also be used for a redemption program for users who had problems in the past and were put up for a forced demotion vote. (Not users who were auto emoted for known inactivity or stepped down themselves voluntarily for inactivity, this is for users who maybe broke rules or caused problems and a vote was put up for their demotion.) If you wish to earn the rights back, and you follow this training program, under the guidance and watchful eye of a mentor, though a spot is not "guaranteed" it would go a long way in proving how serious you are about moving past your past indiscretions and move forward for the good of the wiki.

Unlike users who stepped down either voluntarily or were auto demoted for known inactivity, users who were put up for a demotion vote must go through this program if they ever wish to earn back a spot.

Rewards/Incentives

Obviously with this program, it won't be quite as easy to have landmarks to give rewards for like there is with Adopt a Newb. With this program there will be two landmarks and both the users involved will get to pick a prize for getting to these landmarks.

  • Generally completing the four week training course and being able to show effort was put in to the training
    • Pick a Stage One prize
  • Actually achieving the desired position, either through Admin approval for Official Helper, or through a vote by the Admin Team for Chat Mods, Rollbacks or Admins.
    • Pick a Stage Two prize

Stage One Prizes:

  1. Adopt a character and have it count as minor or
  2. 10 Minutes face time with a god or goddess of your choice with the character of your choice

Stage Two Prizes:

  1. Pick a major character to count as minor or
  2. A new major character slot or
  3. Pick a character to skip the wait time for the 3/6/9 Month Powers
Brief Description of Each Position
For the full Descriptions of the positions, see the Training Manual.
Official Helper

Helpers are essentially like Admin Team members in training. They can't officially approve claims and such, but they can assist in other official ways like leaving comments on claims. Becoming an official helper first, gives a user a chance to learn and experience what is expected of the Admin Team, without the pressures of having minimum edits to meet. However, if a Helper goes more than 1 to 3 months without making any obvious signs of helping anywhere, their status will be revoked until at which time they do have time again. It is also important to note that as the positions rise the positions are held to an increasing moral standard. So a Rollback making a stupid mistake would be held to much more leniency than a Bureaucrat making the same mistake.

Chat Mod

Chat Mods have a much simpler task. Moderate Chat and uphold the policies of the wiki while on Chat. There is a log that Chat Mods must complete, Template:Moderator Checkup. If a moderator isn't seen to be spending much time in chat, in a month's period, automatic demotion could occur as there are only 3 available Chat Mod spots. However, no minimum edit activity is required. It is also important to note that as the positions rise the positions are held to an increasing moral standard. So a Rollback making a stupid mistake would be held to much more leniency than a Bureaucrat making the same mistake.

Rollback

The duty of a Rollback, on this wiki is as follows. Rollbacks are responsible for much of the same things everyone else is, only to a much lesser extent than Admins and Crats. Each Rollback is a member of a department (Administrative Services, Activities & Development or General Support). Their first duties are to their department, second duties to the wiki as a whole. An example of how things might work with in a department for a Rollback is this. The crat head of Activities & Development oversees all Activities going on, they assign specific projects to Admins in that department. Then the Admin heading a certain project, can assign rollbacks to help them with the task. Rollbacks are allowed to assign Helpers to assist them with any tasks as well. Rollbacks are responsible to get a minimum of 3 to 7 edits a week or 6 to 14 edits every two weeks, unless a user is marked as Semi-Active or Officially Inactive, which shows they gave a heads up about their potential inactivity, in which case they have a grace period of a month to get in their department edits, if none in 30 days they get Auto Demotion. It is also important to note that as the positions rise the positions are held to an increasing moral standard. So a Rollback making a stupid mistake would be held to much more leniency than a Bureaucrat making the same mistake.

Administrator

The duty of an Administrator, on this wiki is as follows. Admins are responsible for much of the same things everyone else is, being above Rollbacks and below Crats. Each Admin is a member of a department (Administrative Services, Activities & Development or General Support). Their first duties are to their department, second duties to the wiki as a whole. An example of how things might work with in a department for an Admin is this. The crat head of Activities & Development oversees all Activities going on, they assign specific projects to Admins in that department. Then as the Admin heading a certain project, they then can assign rollbacks or Helpers to help them with the task. Admins are responsible to get a minimum of 15 to 20 edits a week or 30 to 40 edits every two weeks, unless a user is marked as Semi-Active or Officially Inactive, which shows they gave a heads up about their potential inactivity, in which case they have a grace period of a month to get in their department edits, if none in 30 days they get Auto Demotion. It is also important to note that as the positions rise the positions are held to an increasing moral standard. So a Rollback making a stupid mistake would be held to much more leniency than a Bureaucrat making the same mistake.

Bureaucrat

The duty of a Bureaucrat, on this wiki, varies. Generally the wiki is run like a Democratic society with votes, though in the case of a situation that needs a tie breaker, it could be solved by a majority Bcrat vote. This is very rarely needed. Crats are responsible for much of the same things everyone else is, only they are at the top of the chain and need to be the most responsible for making sure the wiki is run like it should be and that things are getting done. Each Crat runs a department (Administrative Services, Activities & Development or General Support). Their first duties are to their department, second duties to the wiki as a whole. Crats are responsible to get a minimum of 20 to 45 edits a week or 40 to 90 edits every two weeks, unless a user is marked as Semi-Active or Officially Inactive, which shows they gave a heads up about their potential inactivity, in which case they have a grace period of a month to get in their department edits, if none in 30 days they get Auto Demotion. It is also important to note that as the positions rise the positions are held to an increasing moral standard. So a Rollback making a stupid mistake would be held to much more leniency than a Bureaucrat making the same mistake.
