Aili was born in Limerick to Eris and Adam Maher. Her conception was the result of a one night stand Adam had had during his college days. He was heading back to his dorm one night when he stumbled upon Eris, the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Between her stunning appearance and the effect of the alcohol he had drank just before, Adam couldn't resist. He took Eris back to his dorm for the night. The morning after, Adam awoke to find Eris vanished. He was saddened, but not overtly disappointed; he hadn't even known the woman's name. He soon forgot about her.
However, months later, a child appeared on the doorstep of Adam's parent's house. Adam opened the door to see the baby girl, with a note attached, apologising for the surprise but stating that the child was indeed his. Adam was shocked. Though pleased at the thought of having a child, he knew he was not ready for the duty of raising a living being. He left the child, who he named Aili, in the care of his parents. Sure that she was to be taken care of, Adam again took off for college.
Aili grew up in the loving care of her grandparents. Though they were Catholics and did not believe in pre-marital sex, they treated Aili kindly and forgave their son for his "mistake". Aili was brought up in a moderately wealthy household. She was happy, and made several friends through her youth. When she was 7 years old, her father returned from his schooling, for good. Now certified as a doctor, Adam decided it was time to start raising his child on his own. He bought a small house a few miles away from his parents, and he and Aili settled there. When she was 9, he adopted another young girl, and named her Aisleen.
Aili, Aisleen, and her father lived in their small cottage happily for 6 more years. At the age of thirteen, she made another friend, Gregory. He was socially awkward and strange, but she liked him nontheless. During class one day, Gregory came rushing towards her, looking frightened. He yelled at her to run, and not believing her eyes, Aili obeyed. There in front of her was a terrifying beast, covered in scales. Aili ran outside, and waited apprehensively to ensure Gregory's safety. A few minutes later, he ran out, looking shaken but unharmed. He told Aili that he was in actuality a satyr, and that she was a demigod. She didn't believe him at first, but after showing her his goat legs, she had no choice but to believe.
She and Gregory arrived at the cottage, where Gregory again explained to Adam the truth. Aili's grandparents were visiting at the time, so they heard it as well. They were horrified, to put it mildly. Never believing in such "fairytales", Aili's grandparents refused to accept the truth. They left shortly after, unwilling to hear any more of the nonsense. Adam on the other hand, was more accepting. He found it difficult to believe, but admitted that the truth made sense. When Gregory told him that Aili would soon be claimed and would then have to leave to camp, he despaired. He did not want his daughter to leave him. He begged Gregory for more time. Gregory was hesitant, but granted Adam's request, as long as he could stay as well, to protect Aili. Gregory grudgingly agreed.
During the next years, Gregory taught Aili how to fight off monsters. She grew quite adept at the practise. She was also claimed by Eris, the goddess of discord. When Aili was 16 years old, nearly 17, a hellhound attacked. She had fought a few monsters on her own, but this one was different. Though she and Gregory managed to fight it off, they barely escaped with their lives. After hearing of the severity of the attack, Adam decided it was time to send Aili to camp. He wanted her to be somewhere she would be sage. Gregory was relieved and took Aili right away. She has been here ever since.
