Joseph is quiet, serious and doesn’t smile much, but to women he finds attractive he can be very charming. Although in times of adventure he loves to be in control. He doesn’t use extreme quickness or strength to win a fight, instead uses his great mind to come up with a way to trick his opponent or find a weak spot.

History[]

Désirée Wright was a loving, caring woman who lived in England with her father, William Wright (who was a demigod, son of Palaemon) in the year 1664. It was in the beginning of that year that she met, John Wafer, a very strong man who radiated power. He asked if he could stay at her house for the night as all the inns were full and after much persuasion Désirée agreed. When they arrived at the house and William instantly recognized the power the man was radiating, it was the power of a god. So William quickly bowed thinking he might have done something wrong and upset the god and the reason he had come was to punish, but the god sensing William’s thoughts quickly said, “Peace, I do not come here in intent to harm you or your daughter. I only wish to spend the night.”

“Oh, we would be most honoured,” William said as he stood up. So with that Désirée went to fix their important guest some supper.

When supper had ended and William was upstairs in his bed, their guest had decided to climb onto the porch and look out upon the sea. After half an hour of this he felt the presence of another so he turned to see Désirée. “You’re room is ready master,” she said, “It’s down the hallway last door to the right.” She then turned to leave, but he grabbed her arm and stopped her in her tracks.

“Please, stay a moment,” He pleaded. Not knowing what else to do she agreed and the hours passed as they talked of adventures and shared a little a bit about themselves, but during that time Désirée found she was falling in love. They were nearing the end of their conversation when the guest said, “I did not tell your father, the real reason I’m here.”

“Then what is the reason, master?” she asked.

“Because of you,” he explained, “I love you, Désirée.” That was the start of a night Désiree would never forget. The next morning the man had left leaving Désirée … who was now pregnant.

Nine months later a healthy baby boy was born who Désirée named Joseph and as he grew William taught him everything he knew about fighting and the Greek gods, the same knowledge William was taught in 1600s English Camp Half-Blood. Joseph was quite different than the kids his age, he didn’t want to play or go chasing girls, but instead he loved to just sit himself down somewhere where he could gaze out to the ocean and just study or practice his sword fighting. By the time he was eleven he was already a good fighter and had extensive knowledge of the gods.

Then in the year 1675, William decided to move his family to French Hispaniola where he wanted to pursue a career in piracy! The voyage to the West Indies was long and hard, but for Joseph it was experience that further strengthened his love of the sea. He was always up on deck volunteering to do jobs or watching the captain navigate. When they finally reached the destination Joseph was actually disappointed, but when William saw this he said, “Don’t worry, lad. Once I find a ship and crew of my own I’ll let you sail with me.” This gave Joseph a new hope and trained and studied harder than ever. Then one day in the same year something happened. William and Joseph were on the beach and William was teaching Joseph a new sword stroke when they heard a flap of wings behind them. They both turned and through William’s agape mouth escaped one terrifying word, “Harpy!” Joseph readied his cutlass, but William stopped him.

“That won’t do anything lad, here,” William explained as he tossed him a bronze looking cutlass instead, “Use this, good for vanquishing monsters.” Joseph caught it and the bronze glittered in the sun. The harpy hesitated at the sight of the blade, but a minute later made up its mind and swooped toward Joseph, probably thinking he was an easier target. “Alright lad, remember your training and you’ll be able to send that monster to the abyss!”  So at the last second Joseph side stepped and swung his sword at the harpy’s neck, but instead of falling to the ground headless like Joseph expected the creature turned into golden dust. William must have seen the look of surprise on his face because he went over to him, patted him on the back and said, “Aye, those monsters will do that. It’s quite normal.” So after that experience William kept close eye on Joseph and was always ready to swoop in and save him if another monster appeared, but the weeks that followed nothing much happened. By that time William had already bought a ship and assembled a crew and as promised took Joseph with him on his first voyage to find treasure and plunder!

Years passed and Joseph had become a skilled fighter not only in the physical attributes, but he also knew much about the weaknesses of monsters and people. Whenever a monster would threaten either Joseph or William they fought it together, some were harder than others, but they managed to survive.  He had also helped his grandfather in many raids like in 1679 when they raided San Blas Islands or even when they captured a ship that was being escorted by the Armada de Barlovento. If William Wright was involved Joseph was always there at his side, but that all ended in 1682. They were docked on an island in Islas Roques and at the time were getting ready for the return journey home. Joseph was particularly excited as he hadn’t seen his mother in years and longed to be with her again, but his joy was short lived when he heard a mighty roar. Then beyond the sand dune a head appeared, a reptilian, ugly head, but what surprised Joseph the most was that there were many more following it. His mind raced and when it finally stopped one, terrifying word had come to mind, hydra! By this time the whole monster had come from the sand dune and was making its way toward the ship. The crew suddenly burst into screams and shouts, Joseph knew of the obscure force called the Mist so he wasn’t exactly sure what they were actually seeing, but he himself knew what he had to do. He rushed over to his grandfather who was readying himself for the fight of his life. “Grandfather, I have a plan,” he exclaimed.

“What is it, lad,” William asked.

“You need to take the crew and get out of here,” he explained.”

“But what about you, lad?”

“I’ll hold it off.”

“But it’ll kill you! Let me stay instead, you take the crew.”

“No! I’m the better fighter and in my prime, grandfather. I can do this.” William was going to argue some more, but Joseph had already gone. As he walked to his doom he could hear his grandfather’s voice commanding to retreat. Then moments later Joseph was a few meters away from the hydra. For a moment they just looked at each other, daring each other to make the first move. Joseph finally had enough, he was ready to stare death in the face. So with a mighty yell he charged at the monster. With no fire he knew he couldn’t kill it, but the only thought on his mind was to stall enough time for his beloved Grandfather to escape. As he closed in he jumped onto a rock and used it to propel himself into the air with the cutlass ready to take one last swing. With speed Joseph didn’t know possible one of the hydra’s head shot out acid directed right at him! So this was it he was going to die without getting in one last valiant strike, but just as the acid was going to hit him the sea exploded! A huge wave carried both the hydra and Joseph down to the depths, but unlike the monster Joseph was magically transformed into a seashell that could feed off the energy of the ocean. For his bravery and willingness to sacrifice his own life he was saved by his father.

Hundreds of years passed and Joseph as a seashell just swayed back and forth as history was being made above him. Then one day in the present time he washed up onto Camp Half-Blood’s beach and was once again magically transformed back into his human form, but he hadn’t aged a day. He was then instantly claimed, but in a world that he didn’t know

Powers[]

Offensive[]

  1. Children of Poseidon have the ability to conjure a weapon out of water which can be used for combat; however, only one weapon can be conjured at a time and it cannot be bigger than the one who conjured it. They can also make small non-combative objects out of water.

Defensive[]

  1. Children of Poseidon can survive falling from high altitudes as long as they land in water, they can also go as deep into the ocean as they desire without any effects from the water pressure.
  2. Children of Poseidon have a slightly higher resistance to burns.
  3. Children of Poseidon have the ability to create a dome shaped torrent of water, roughly two to three times the size of the user, which can be used to block attacks for a very short time.

Passive[]

  1. Children of Poseidon can innately breathe underwater.
  2. They have telepathic connections to equine animals (horses, zebras, giraffes, pegasi, hippocampi, etc.), and while submerged in water they can communicate with other children of Poseidon telepathically.
  3. They, and everything they touch, stay or become dry in water, unless they want to become wet.
