Name: Erik Daae

Gender: Male

God Parent:Aglaea

Mortal Parent:Raoul Daae

Appearance: Stephen Delattre

Erik

Current Age: 16

Personality:

He is shy, for obvious reasons. He tries to keep hope in the face of despair, but it’s been getting harder to do of recent. He is a genius, and is a quick learner. He is humble, despite his showing up of people (specifically, Charles.)

Although he is not beautiful outside (at least, his face) he is beautiful on the inside. He would save his greatest enemy from hellfire if he had to. After years of torture, he doesn’t feel anyone deserves pain.

His bitterness, however, does grow, and once pure thoughts have turned a little darker. He has considered committing suicide before, as well as killing his father.

History:

Raoul Daae was a young business mogul, known for his philanthropy and vast amount of wealth. The press and public adored him, truly the jewel of America. He was a splendidly handsome man, with a hot young wife and a little baby on the way. Some would say he was the most beautiful man, both in and out.

This being said, he did have his fair share of lady callers. One happened to be a goddess. She pretended to be a secretary, and one night, when the two were alone in the office, they hooked up. It was not the first time he'd cheated on his wife.

Unfortunately for him, this led to a baby. Only a few months later, the child arrived at their doorstep, a beautiful little tyke with wide searching eyes. He considered leaving the child at a foster care home. His wife could not know of his infidelity, nor the public. It would bring about a bad image.

But the boy was beautiful, who could resist such a face? Besides, better to take scandal head on. Someone would eventually ask questions on his parentage.. The wife was upset, but she was mainly there for the money, so she put up with his extensive infidelity. They named the kid Erik. A few months after that, the wife’s baby was born. Erik now had a baby brother named Charles. They told the press the kids were twins, and the press believed, as they’d hidden Erik before then.

When Erik was about 3, there was a fire in the house. A wire sparked, and Erik’s room went up in flames. The rest of the household could escape, but Erik was still in his room. He managed to crawl out of the inferno, into the living room. The fire had licked his face, and some other parts of his body. He fainted. Surely, the tyke must’ve perished right?

Wrong. The maid had arrived for cleaning duty. While everyone was escaping, she bravely went in for the child, scooping him up from the living room, carrying him outside. Soon, firemen and paramedics arrived, taking the grievously injured boy to the hospital, as well as the shocked family and brave maid. They operated on the boy. The good news? he would live. The bad news? Well...he was badly disfigured. Especially his face. He would heal but...he would never be the same again. When the child was finally released from the hospital, Raoul beheld the monstrous face of his son. What was once a beauty, now a horror to behold. If there was one thing Raoul could not stand, it was imperfection and ugliness. Raoul fired the maid for saving Erik.

They bought a new penthouse in New York City, and moved. In the architectural design of the apartment, there was a more secluded dark room, which Raoul payed to have secretly sound proofed. There was to sleep Erik, the monster of now four years. He placed a cot, some water, then holed him up. Raoul hated seeing his mistakes, especially the hideous ones. Now, he would be known as “the poor business man” with the disfigured son. He hated the pity Erik brought upon his success, and took it out on Erik.

At first, the beatings weren’t that bad. Mostly Raoul would just spank him and slap him. As he grew older though, He began to kick and punch, whipping with a belt. The boy was pure animal, scared and alone. The wife would do nothing, she cared little for Erik, but for the wealth, she cared much. Charles only knew Erik had “problems” and that these were the formats in which “daddy would correct them.” He knew his father had to deal with the monstrosity in some way. the question was, which monstrosity was he dealing with, his sons, or his own inner distortion? Because Charles' first teachers in life were his parents, he didn't understand that Erik's mistreatment was bad. Besides, with the room sound proofed, only Erik and Raoul truly knew the horrors that went on in the room.

You can only avoid the press so much. When the time for enrolling the children came around, Raoul had no choice but to send the boys to school. On the first day, everyone fled in horror at the freak that was Erik, no compassion to be shown anywhere. No compassion, that is, except for his teacher. After school, Erik was walking out of class, tears on his face from the torment of the other boys who thought him horrid, and the girls who whispered and gossiped of him. The teacher caught him before he left, and took him aside. “Listen kid,” she said. “You are special. Don’t let what the other kids say affect you. They are just jealous. In dark times, you must keep your head up and hope for a better tomorrow.” His first kind words.

Naturally, Raoul hated the backlash over his son. He took Erik out of school the next day, instead, paying for his private tuition at home. The first tutor ran out with fright. The second quit, feeling she could not work with such students as he. Raoul was annoyed by the lack of tutors willing to apply, so he had Erik wear a sack over his head while in the presence of his tutor. He payed the tutor triple the original price to keep her mouth shut of his curious treatment.

In his studies, Erik found a home. He excelled at all academics, and anything the tutors tried to teach. He outshined his brother, with his beautiful mind. Although you might think Raoul would be happy at this development, he was actually quite pissed. His monster was outshining his child, and he could not accept that defeat. He beat him on the regular bases, now bringing in more tortures better left unwritten (seriously.) Remembering the kind words of the teacher, Erik did not back down, instead, continuing to do his best to be the best.

When Erik was about 13, his mother (the real one) took pity on him. She sent two gifts, which he found in his torture chamber/room. First, a magic jewel encrusted mask, that allowed him to breathe and see normally, while also cover his hideous face away from the world (the magic being that he could breathe and see easily, while also not getting hot under it. Also, it helps people fear him his face less. He could basically never take off the mask, except maybe when showering.) The second was a single glove, with three peculiar buttons at its sleeve. He knew not who sent them, but he was grateful for his gifts.

At first, Raoul was angered at Erik, believing him to have stolen money to buy the mask. But when people started treating Erik differently…..less of a monster and more of a curious freak, well, he gave into the idea of the mask. Deciding that his monster was now at least SOMEWHAT presentable, he began to allow Erik to do other activities. Erik began to learn the art of sword fighting with his brother Charles, and also began to run as a hobby. He beat his brother in both areas. They decided to try archery together. Again, he always outshined Charles. While they did grow closer, Charles grew envious too.

One day, while running in central park, A harpy attacked. He always carried the glove with him, mostly for sentimental value, and that saved his life that day. The beastie flew at him, full force, and he managed to dodge. It raked him across his back as he ran from the damn thing. He was fast, but not fast enough. Erik tripped over a root, and the harpy was upon him.

When he’d fallen, however, he’d had the glove on. Trying to break the fall with his hands, he’d accidentally pressed one of the buttons. A celestial bronze saber appeared in his gloved hand. Without a second thought, he shoved the saber into the descending monster.

Also around this time, Erik started taking ballet lessons. Of course, Raoul would never approve of this, so he asked for funding from his step mother instead. The woman cared nothing for the masked child, but, he had some black mail. He'd come across her one day, banging someone in his father's bedroom. This was not the issue. The wife was soon to be pregnant again, and it was unclear as to who was the baby daddy. If Raoul found out she'd done what he'd done to her..well, it would not be pretty. Erik, of all people, would know. And so, she gave in. The baby, later born, was a girl, whom they'd decided to name Megan.

At age 14, Raoul took the boys to play some Polo in South Carolina. It was mainly a business trip, but he did not trust his monster alone at home. While on the field, a trio of wild flesh eating horses attacked. Remembering the mysterious glove, Erik took it out of his back pocket. He took at the saber he’d used before, and rode towards the horses, managing to off one’s head.. The other two snapped at him as he rode past. The he rode back. Another head. The last one had been more willy, and dodged him. As he tried to ride past, it took a chunk out of his horse. The horse whinnied violently, throwing Erik off. The final flesh eating horse charged at him, oh so close to taking a bite. He quickly pressed the button, recalling the fallen blade. He tried another button. This time, a javelin appeared in his hands. He shoved it in front him, getting the thing stuck in the horses cranium. The monster disintegrated.

Who knows what his father saw, but whatever his vision presented, it sure made him displeased. Raoul took his freak to a dark room in the secluded South Carolina house, and whipped him with a seatbelt. He kicked him repeatedly in the back. The deeds grew darker as the sun disappeared and returned. Erik couldn’t walk for a few days.

At age 15, Erik was going to a party when a hellhound attacked. It was a first for him, but his brother Charles had decided to ask him to come as his guest. He was about to enter the apartment complex when the large dog attacked him. Having learned from previous experiences, he had his glove on. Quickly, he presses for the saber (the weapon he felt most comfortable with) And slashed at the dog. A few of the minimal passerbys gave him weird looks, but said nothing. Upon entering the dark premise, he found no one around. He was confused, until some lights turned on, revealing at least fifty kids. A camera was pointed at him. His brother walked up to him, an odd smile on his face. “Hey bro, glad you could make it.” He pushed Erik over and unmasked him. Everyone screamed in horror at the morbid face revealed, then laughed. Kids surrounded Erik and prodded him. Erik was an unfamiliar specimen, a disgusting but curious mound of flesh to behold. He wanted to fight them, make them go away, but he couldn’t let them win. “Welcome to the freakshow!” Charles yelled loudly. After that incident, Charles became popular in school. When the footage was given to Raoul, Erik got the beating.

An odd thing happened that year. Erik made a friend. During his morning runs, he would see a guy reading a novel at the bench. After some time, they struck up a conversation. The poor little monster had never had a friend before, but if park guy was anything, he surely was that.

Around the time Erik turned 16, park guy presented himself to be more than meets the eye. Erik had been on his run when a flock of stymphalian birds attacked. He tried to fend them with his saber, but there were too many. Suddenly, park bench guy appeared with two pots. He banged them loudly, scaring the beasties away. He looked at Erik seriously. “Come with me kid, there’s stuff you need to know.”

He explained that he was a satyr, in search of other special people like him. Erik’s heart sank as he realized, it was just a confirmation that he was a freak. Park bench guy didn’t realize this, however, and continued explaining. Finally, he laid the last brick. “You have to come with me. To the camp.” How would they tell Raoul though? Erik explained, in as little detail as possible, how his father was. The satyr promised he knew how to convince Raoul.

Park bench guy went to the penthouse, all business. He explained his proposition to Raoul, phrasing it in a way that might allow him to let his son go. Unfortunately, Erik was listening. “It’s a camp for the weirdos of society. You don’t ever have to deal with, not really. Press won’t bug you, guaranteed…….yes we have a good system of keeping the general public ignorant….right, a problem off your hands….” Erik had heard enough.

Raoul let him go. He packed his bags and moved out, not stopping to say goodbye to his family. He knew they would probably have a party once he left. They arrived at camp.

To everyone’s surprise, he was claimed as a son of Aglaea. The world seemed to be playing a cruel joke on him.

Hai York-shire! This claim as always is unique, and a good start. However I've picked up on a few points which you may find useful

  • I recommend you proof-read the claim, for example you state that Erik was a little "tyche", and that the black glove has three 'bottons' on the sleeve. I assume these are just typos, but you may want to check through to build on your previous work.
  • Normally, in abuse-ridden situations, I would assume that the mother and the brother would perhaps report Erik's behaviour to Child Protection Services. How was Raoul able to keep this treatment a secret? In particular, I imagine any kind servants/maids would probably find such behaviour horrifying.
  • Doesn't Erik's mask make him more unusual? Personally, I imagine Raoul would either keep Erik locked away, or pay for extensive plastic surgery to correct his face. Course, surgery is never perfect but it could be seen as a lot less conspicuous than a steampunk-esque mask.
  • Hm, the first monster attack seems a little short and condensed. In particular, I imagine it would be difficult to stab some kind of being while wearing a mask. Also, you don't need to do a monster attack every year after the first one, as long as you have a reason to explain why he wasn't attacked. Additionally, please can you put his current age on the claim?
  • Please can you add a little more detail on park guy, and how they get to camp? The second half of the claim honestly pales compared to the first part.

Hope this helps c:
