Mortem in his gear

Appearance: He appears to be a very pale kid, and he gives off the type of vibe that makes people move out of the way. His standard attire is black jeans, a black singlet, a black leather jacket and black sneakers. He wears sunglasses that are just light enough to let you see the pitch black eyes staring back at you...

Personality: Having been through many experiences, Mortem has wisdom beyond his years. He is one of those people who if you try to punch him, you end up with a bruised hand. He will take what you do to him, but nothing phases him. He prefers to intimidate rather than use force, but when push comes to shove he can be a deadly power. While he can usually be cold and cruel he is still a normal kid, even though he has tried to bury most of it since it seemed to him like a weakness when he was on the road.

History: In life, Mortem has always been an unlucky guy, even more than your average demigod. I mean, his name literally means Death Destruction. In fact, his bad luck began about a year before he was even born.

His mother never had one of those standard jobs. She was one of the people who set up those suicide machines. She worked for a company called "Thanotics" which supplied euthenasia for victims of deadly diseases, where she would bring and assemble the machines and show them how to use it. After the suicider killed him/herself she would remove him and recollapse the machine. She often had doubts about her job, and really the only reason she stayed was because of her boss.

Thanatikos Malum

Thanatikos was none other than Thanatos, the Greek god of death. He had pity on suiciders, so he made Thanotics as a calmer, more peaceful way to go. He knew that if these kinds of services weren't around then there would be far more gory deaths, which he doesn't like. The serum he developed that got injected helped ease their way through to Erebus. It also made their souls satisfied, so whatever had made them commit suicide didn't hurt them as much.

Anyway, Malady had fallen head-over-heels in love with Thanatos and spent almost all her time - when she wasn't working - fantasising about him. Noticing the lust she had for him, he decided to take advantage of that, and he made the first move. The pair started dating, and they eventually had sex, resulting in Mortem. Once Malady was 2 months pregnant, Thanatos told her his true identity. Shocked, Malady committed suicide later that day, using the very machines Thanatos had invented. Sensing her death, Thanatos rushed to the machine but it was already too late. Thinking quickly, Thanatos created a quick caesarean section and removed Mortem from her womb. Trying to think of what to do, he remembered what his cousin Zeus had done with his kid, Dionysus. As fast as he could, he slashed open his thigh and sewed Mortem in.

4 months later, Thanatos removed Mortem and left him at an orphanage. He was given in a basket on top of a folded set of a leather jacket, black singlet, sunglasses, black jeans and black sneakers. Next to him was a locked book, with a name on the front: Mortem. The orphanage decided that was his name, and took him in. By the time he was 11 he first developed his powers. One of the older kids called Max befriended him, and the two of them became good friends. When Max was on a school trip, Mortem encountered his first monster. It was a hellhound pup, that had been drawn towards his power. At first, it tried to attack him, but the moment it readied itself to attack Mortem looked at it with his pitch black eyes, and the hellhound stood down.

The next day, the hellhound approached Mortem again, but instead of trying to attack him it walked right up next to him and hung around him. Even though the hellhound was at least a head taller than him everyone only saw a small mastiff pup. The next day when Max came back he was shocked to see the hellhound lying down next to Mortem, while Mortem patted his head. Max tried to take Mortem away from it, but the hellhound bared its teeth and snarled, making Max jump back. Mortem scolded the hellhound and told him it was fine.

The first time Mortem was properly attacked was on the day of his 12th birthday. A flock of 5 Stymphalian Birds attacked him and the other 12 and 13-year-olds who had gone to the park with him to celebrate his birthday. The Stymphalian Birds attacked him, but all the others saw were some irritated pigeons, so they ran away. Soon only Mortem and Catastroph (what he named the hellhound) were remaining. The Stymphalians swooped down, and Catastroph started barking at them. Noticing how the flinched at the sound, Mortem started screaming at them as well. Running more into the park, he went into the dark grove, where he tried to hide. The Stymphalians managed to find them, but by then Mortem had come up with a plan. He told Catastroph to start barking, and fairly quickly they were disorganised. Reaching through the world around him he made a small throwing dagger from the astral energies, which he hurled at a Stymphalian Bird that had stopped on a tree. It hit the monster head-on, and Mortem felt its life force get snuffed out. Feeling the rush of energy, he created more daggers and skewered the remaining four birds. He got Catastroph to go "fetch" the feathers and pocketed the ones that he rounded up.

His second attack was 6 months later, where a duo of fire-breathing horses attacked the orphanage. All of the occupants apart from Mortem and Max died in the resulting fire. The entire orphanage burnt down, destroying all the files and documents within. Max knew that he could now take Mortem as he was no longer an official ward of the state

Max revealed to Mortem his true nature as a satyr. He showed Mortem to a small store room in the garden at the back of the orphanage which contained the items he had arrived with. He told Mortem to use whatever he could to open the book, and Mortem made a dagger which he tried to open it with. However, the moment the blade touched the lock the blade disappeared, and the lock opened. Mortem opened the book, and dark writing started to spread out from where he touched it. The first page filled in, and he read of how his mother had committed suicide, how his father was Thanatos, and how he was in danger and needed to leave to Camp Half Blood. The book also spoke of how he should put on the clothes that were next to the book. Mortem slipped them on, and found that they were the perfect size for him, even though he could have sworn they looked way bigger before. He also slipped on the watch. The book told him how the watch could turn into a scythe if he spoke the command word: "Skotono"

In shock by everything he had just encountered, he asked Max what they were going to do next. Max answered that they were to get to Camp Half Blood as soon as possible and that once there he could train and get stronger. That night he had a restless sleep where he dreamed he was being followed by a giant shimmering cloud made of Stymphalian Birds. When he woke up he spent 15 minutes readying himself, before getting out of bed. Slipping on the clothes and watch he went outside and met up with Max. They started walking...

From their orphanage in Oregon, they started walking to New York. Along the way they fought a monster every 6-8 days, even fighting (then running from) a Cyclops. Over the course of the 14 months it took to walk they fought almost 130 monsters in 60 different attacks. Unfortunately, they were attacked once more by a nest of Myrmekes just before they reached the Boundary. In the ensuing battle Max lost his life. Mortem blacked out after watching -and feeling- Max's death. He woke up in the Infirmary 2 days later, with  a groggy headache and Catastroph by his side. 3 days later, he was still recovering.

Weapons:

A Stygian Iron scythe that turns into a watch (The watch changes time to fit the region he is in, and it is never the wrong time)

Armour:

A Stygian Iron plate-mail with the Ancient Greek writing of "I nychta einai otan chytpa o Thanos" (Night is when Death strikes) on the chest plate. Mist shows it as a leather jacket, black sneakers, black jeans and a black singlet. It is always the right fit for Mortem, no matter how much he grows

Items:

A pair of sunglasses

A book that used to be locked that tells him everything about how he is a demigod. It also tells him the powers he could develop, as well as some fighting skills for the scythe.

Hello there! Sorry for the really long wait; I'm here to check your claim now! :)

  • Oki, so about Thanotics, it seems unlikely for the god himself to create such company, let alone manage one, since he's actually one of the busiest gods around. And I'm pretty sure, if that happened, not almost everyone will be benefited; so many gruesome deaths happen around the world and a single suicide-machine-making company wouldn't lessen it much.
  • In connection to the point above, whatever Zeus did to Dionysus that time,
  • Accelerated powers that is not applied to other demigods is a no-no, to be fair in the wiki. Early power awakening is fine. (Another to-be-fair, the wiki has created a power template for each demigod, so yeah.)
  • Pitch black eyes? As in the whites and everything? (Yeah, that's not possible.) And no, kids of Thanatos are not able to radiate fear.
  • Max, as a satyr, has a very important job of bringing demigods to camp immediately, especially those who are in danger. So why didn't he bring Mortem if he knew he was a demigod? (Satyrs sense demigods.)
  • Minor, but what's with the dagger that opened the lock of the book?
  • How did they survive that one-year trek across the US? (Like food and shelter and . . . did they just walk the entire journey? wow) That must be hard for a 12 year-old and a single satyr.
  • Well, it's just me, but does he really need those specialized glasses to see spirits? He's a kid of Thanatos, he can sense them and even talk to them.
  • Last, how long, exactly, has he been at Camp? (2 weeks max)

That's it for now (really sorry for the long wait again ;-;), and see ya! And oh, nice sketch, btw :D

Hey Summer, thanks for checking on my claim.

So onto your corrections:

  • Thanatos is supposed to be the god of peaceful deaths, while his more vicious sisters (the Keries) were in charge of violent deaths. As such I think it would make sense for him to have a suicide company with peaceful deaths rather than people jumping of buildings and hangin themselves, etc.
    • As for the business, doesn't it say in the PJ series that the gods could split themselves, as their true form was when all their fragments were together. If Thanatos could split himself into different parts to reap souls and stuff then surely he could have a fragment maintaining this company.
  • Can't really understand what your trying to say, don't know if it's the grammar or me just being dumb. Could you say it differently?
  • Not the whites, just the irises
  • He doesn't as much radiate fear as a power but he is rather intiidating with his cold demeanour. If you're refering to when he "tamed" Catastrophe remember he was only a pup so it wouldn't be like that Ares ability
  • Yeah, but he was taken after his first attack, like how Grover only took Percy after he was attacked by the furies. Before that he wasn't "in danger" as such.
  • The lock was built to react to the astral energies that Mortem could summon, so that it would only open at the right time, when he was strong enough
  • On google maps the time would have been for 3 months, but i lengthened it for sleep, eating and other things. Along the way they would stop at homeless shelters, but if authorities or monsters came they would run again to the next place.
  • You're right, he doesn't need them. I'll take out the powers in them. Still, he wears them to look cool
  • 5 days, im planning on roleplaying him learning everything if i can.

Thanks again for checking the claim!

P.S: I can't take credit for the sketch, I got my art teacher to do it for me when I'd finished my work (lol. wish I could draw that well).

Mortem et Malum (talk) 01:06, September 4, 2017 (UTC)

Okay, so here I am again! At last! (It's still a cool drawing, haha) I've already asked for advice, so yeah :)

  • I guess (well, for me), the stitching-into-thigh part is fine. But remove the part where it says his powers were accelerated because of it.
  • Now about Thanotics. Euthanasia is accepted in where Mortem's from, but assisting suiciders who don't even have grave illness (that, yes, causes just death) isn't part of that process and is considered murder in the laws's persepctive. So Thanatos wouldn't create a company like that. He might be god, but he abides the rules.
  • And the makeshift daggers he used to kill the Stymphalian birds. See, only Celestial bronze and Stygian iron can kill monsters. Any other metal doesn't hurt them.
  • Right now, a satyr's main priority is bring a demigod to Camp immediately. But that could be delayed if there is a valid reason for it.

So, yeah, that's it. Really sorry for making you wait ;-;

Sorry for making you need to get help, I didn't think this would be that much of a hassle

  • K done
  • Changed it to only people with deadly diseases
  • He didn't use makeshift daggers. If you read this bit " Reaching through the world around him he made a small throwing dagger" it's pretty clear that he was using his powers. Still I've edited it to make it more clear. I assume the magic weapon things can damage monsters :)
  • I changed that bit up, now because the records were destroyed it was easier to leave undetected. If they tried to leave before they would have been found and returned.

Thanks again

Mortem et Malum (talk) 02:09, September 18, 2017 (UTC)

Again, I am very very sorry. This is the last thing, promise.

  • The only way a monster would kill mortals would be that they are hindering their plan on killing the demigods. So, what did they exactly do that made the whole orphanage go down?

Ahhh, how many times should I say sorry? Really huge thanks for your patience c:

Tsum, tsum, tsum, tsum . . .My studio!

I guess I should have made it more clear, but the other orphans and carers died in the resulting fire.

And once again,  thanks for helping. If it took you a while to work it out it's okay, because that also makes me grateful for you spending so much time on me and my troublesome claim.

(p.s: How do you make that awesome signature thing? Mine is always just a link and the time.)

Mortem et Malum (talk) 00:09, September 20, 2017 (UTC)

(Don't worry, I found where to request one)

Mortem et Malum (talk) 00:20, September 20, 2017 (UTC)

Is it also ok if I change his personality a bit so that he doesn't seem like a total reject? Tell me if it's bad and I'll change it back

Mortem et Malum (talk) 02:21, September 20, 2017 (UTC)

Heyo! I'm really sorry I haven't been around these days (stupid stuff irl is, well, ridiculous). About the personality, add a fun part (13-year-olds must have a fun side!)

You Have Been Claimed

This claim has been approved as a son of Thanatos. You now need to make a page for them and a word bubble, if you aren't sure how to do this you can see the guide here. Once you have done that you can add your character's name to the cabin list located on the cabin pages and start role playing with your new character. If you have any questions feel free to ask a member of the Admin team.
