Name: Quinton de Costa

Gender: Male

God Parent: Eros, Poseidon, Deimos

Mortal Parent: Sicily de Costa

Appearance:

Quinton18

Personality: Quinton is a goofball. He’s lovable and cuddly towards girls but he grew up with males hating him for all the attention girls gave him and, as such, generally dislikes male company. Often because of his attitude and characteristics he is stereotyped into the “gay best friend” category. He always seems to be friend-zoned by women and deep down hold bitterness for never being taken seriously in society. This bitterness, however, only surfaces in his weakest moments. Most of the time he’s cheerful and happy to be around people, and he’s rather extroverted and flirts non-stop with anyone he sets his sights on.

History: Sicily du Santos was the daughter of a wealthy businessman in Pamplona, Spain. She was beautiful, and had a passion for all things wild and unruly. Perhaps this is why she found herself in the middle of the street during a bull run, one headed straight for her. Before she even had time to comprehend her dire situation, she was whisked off the road by a tall stranger, moving as if with wings. He pressed her against the shouting crowd and kept her there until the bulls had passed. As the echoing of the hooves disappeared into the distance, the stranger moved off Sicily and she got her first good look of him.

The man was the picture of perfection; dark, curly hair that fell just so, eyes as dark and luxurious as velvet chocolate, a gleaming smile that didn’t seem forced. He winked at her, a half smile on his face, and Sicily knew she was in love. After he had rescued her, she got into conversation with him, laughing at her own stupidity. The man admired Sicily’s attitude and courage, and asked her out to dinner. The two clicked, and they continued seeing each other for three months on and off, sometimes it seemed the man would just disappear. One night, Sicily lay with the man, and told him she was pregnant with his child. The man beamed at her, though there was sadness in his smile as he told her he wouldn’t stay, couldn’t stay, but that she would find another man to love. Sicily was heartbroken, but she had come to learn that her mysterious bedfellow had his own ways he went about, and with that thought in her mind she accepted he would not be around for his child.

Sicily gave birth in hospital to a bouncing baby boy, whom she named Quinton du Santos, after her grandfather. True to his word, the man, who turned out to be the Greek God Eros, left not a week after Quinton’s birth. Sicily left the hospital and went to live with her father, but it was not long before she was being courted by another man.

This man was a wealthy fishmonger. He not only owned and operated his own company, but was always out at sea, constantly trying to be everywhere at once. One year, he took a break from the seas, and that is when he met Sicily. He had fallen for her beauty immediately, and she his charm.  The dated for a few months, and the man, Lucas, proposed to and married Sicily before Quinton had celebrated his first birthday.

Quinton grew up thinking Lucas was his father. He had his surname (de Costa), they went out on father/son outings and they always made Sicily laugh at the most ridiculous of things. Quinton sailed through his pre-schooling years with ease, nothing eventful happening apart from the birth of his sister, Maria, when he was three. Lucas returned to the seas every summer for work, leaving Quinton and Sicily at home making macaroni artworks with a crying baby being constantly rocked to sleep.

When Quinton turned five, his mother sent him off to school. On his first day he had cried and cried and begged not to go, there were scary girls in there, but his mother had persisted and he’d gotten over his fear of strange females by the time he was eight. This was also the time he welcomed his second sister into the world, Ava, as it was the time he began noticing peculiar things about Lucas. After almost every summer, he’d return home with a new scar or wound. Sometimes the injuries would appear while he wasn’t at sea, and Quinton would return home to find the floors really dusty and Lucas in the kitchen with an ice pack on his wound. Lucas would smile tiredly at Quinton and ruffle his hair, telling him there was nothing to worry about.

Quinton carried on this way for a few more years. When he turned ten his mother gave birth for the last time (or so she hoped). It was another girl, whom they named Tiadora. Quinton loved looking after all his sisters and pretending that he was their protector, that nothing could get past him. They all looked up to him, their big brother in shining armour, and would follow him around at school when they could. Quinton would always blush when they did this, and though he loved them, he was glad they couldn’t follow him around anymore when he moved into higher education.

Quinton, now being called Quinn by his friends, had just moved into high school. He was twelve, not yet thirteen when a hellhound crashed into him on his way home. The beast didn’t look like it was meant to be heading for Quinton, but by the time it had him pinned down it had sniffed out his scent. Quinton prayed in Spanish for mercy as the hellhound opened its mouth, bared its fangs and… turned into a pile of golden dust. Quinton looked up and around, at first all he saw was Lucas holding something shiny, so he dismissed him, but slowly recognition dawned on his face as he spun back to his father holding a trident in his hand.

Lucas tried explaining everything slowly, but it all became jumbled up in Quinton’s head. Lucas was a son of Poseidon, he was always attacked out at sea, only a few attacks happened on land and Quinton had got in the way of one of the hellhounds that were chasing Lucas (there were two, but he’d already killed one by the time he got to Quinton). This led Lucas to his final point. Quinton had to be a demigod, otherwise the hellhound wouldn’t have attacked. He couldn’t fathom whom Quinton’s father was though, deciding just to leave it at, “You’re a demigod, son.”

Quinton was awed. For the next half a year, Quinton went through life not believing what Lucas had said was the truth. He was so transfixed on the dream that he was part god that he didn’t notice everyone around being drawn to him more and more often. Girls gave him more attention, but they simply ended up friend-zoning him because he would never talk back, he was lost in his dream. What woke him up from the dream was being attacked by monsters again. He and Lucas had gone down to San Sebastián for a day trip, so they could check the fishing boat would still be ready and able for the upcoming summer. While they were on the jetty, two seal-like flippers wrapped around Quinton’s ankles and pulled him into the water. He thrashed around under the water until he could see the face of his attacker, an odd dog-seal hybrid thing.

Lucas dived into the water, breathing as if on the surface, and sliced the telekhine in two with a spare sword he had on the boat. He dragged Quinton up to the jetty, where he lay in shock, breathing heavily, for a good hour. In this hour Lucas explained the much finer points of life as a demigod, the unique powers, what and when monsters attack, how you can use your abilities to your advantage etc. After their deep and meaningful chat about demigod life (and checking out the boat), they returned home to Pamplona at sunset.

At fourteen, Quinton didn’t know who his father was; he never tried to study Greek Mythology to find out. He knew the basics though; enough about monsters to identify them if any came knocking. He and Lucas trained every afternoon after Quinton got home from school. He told him about Camp, and how one day he’d go there, but Lucas had more to teach him before then. He trained Quinton with a xiphos, then with a trident. Quinton felt out of place using the trident, but he handled the weapon well, according to Lucas, so kept using it. Over his teenage years (13-16), Quinton defeated seven harpies, three hellhounds and one empousai (with help from Lucas).

At school, he came out of his shell, flirting with more and more girls he knew were out of his league, though he eventually realised they were out of his league. By the time his sister, Maria, was in high school, she had learned not to follow him around anymore. He was always followed by girls anyway. He was continually chasing the ones who refused him, getting his heart broken and being put in the friend zone. He kept flirting though, and Maria would always roll her eyes when she saw him.

For each day when Lucas was away in summer, Quinton trained alone. He grew fit and strong, and gained even more attention from ladies. Every year, the entire family would go and watch the Running of the Bulls and the year Quinton was 16 he begged his mother and Lucas to enter by faking his age. He knew he was capable enough, and so did they. So, knowing he wouldn’t do anything stupid, they let him sign up. He was lining up with the other contestants when an official came over to him and tapped him on the shoulder. He had a seriously grumpy look on his face, he’d found out Quinton was underage when a student in Quinton’s year had ratted him out from the crowd.

The guy they brought over to replace Quinton was tall and tan, built strong and muscular like a bull in the subtlest of ways. He winked at Quinton in a reassuring yet cheeky manner and took his place with the other runners as Quinton was escorted off. As Quinton watched the race with the rest of his family, the guy that had replaced him suddenly disappeared after a bend, but a new bull had joined the herd.

After the race, Quinton went up and congratulated his replacement on a fine race. The man introduced himself as Andre, and leaned over to Quinton, whispering in his ear, “I know what you are.”

Quinton didn’t take this very well, at all. He stumbled away from Andre, believing him to be a monster. For a few days, he forgot about Andre entirely. Then, he appeared on his doorstep, a sword at his side and an unidentifiable glint in his eye. Quinton initially shut the door on him, but after two hours or so of Andre trying to talk to him he gave in.

Andre explained how he was a nymph, a Guardian of Bulls, and that he felt responsible for taking Quinton to Camp. He was also helpful enough to explain to Quinton his true heritage, a son of Eros, God of Love. Though it made a lot of sense to Quinton, he still didn’t trust Andre, and refused to go to Camp with him, telling him his father, Lucas, was going to do that.

Well, Lucas, at that point in time, was on his fishing boat. He knew it wasn’t the season, but there had been rumours of freakishly large schools of fish frequenting further off the shore than usual and he had wanted to check it out for the sake of his business. Sadly, while he was out there the boat was attacked by a sea serpent. The serpent itself wouldn’t have been a problem, but before it attacked Lucas it attacked the boat, coiling around it and shattering it into millions of splinters. The boat took everything with it, all Lucas’ weapons and armour. All he carried on his person was a small CB dagger, and he fought the serpent for as long as he could with the dagger, but the serpent won out in the end. The news reported that Lucas’ ship had been wrecked by a “freak storm”. They never recovered any of the bodies from the ship, so at Lucas’ funeral they lowered an empty coffin into the ground.

Quinton was shattered. He sat at his father’s grave weeping, completely out of character. In was then, in his weakest moment, that he was approached again by Andre. He placed a gentle hand on Quinton’s shoulder, and told him it would be okay. He would take Quinton to Camp where he could further his training, and his family would be safe away from monster attacks affecting them in any way.

It was a deal Quinton couldn’t resist, and so 3 months later, when he was 17, he bid goodbye to his family. He cried as he parted from his mother and sisters, and he made Maria swear to keep Ava and Tia safe. Then he and Andre began the long journey to Camp Half-Blood. It took slightly under two weeks, though they used as many flights as possible, monster attacks from dracnae and hellhounds slowed them down.

They reached Camp while Quinton was still seventeen.

Weapons: Xiphos, trident

Note: First off, sorry for the length of the history >.< Secondly, Andre will be an existing character on the wiki when I get around to making him, and his history matches Quinton's in the necessary areas.
