Goddess of Moderation, Temperance, Self-Control, Restraint, and Discretion

Sophrosyne is the Greek personification of Moderation, Temperance, Self-Control, Restraint, and Discretion. She is one of the good spirits that escaped from Pandora's jar, and Zeus decided to turn her into a goddess. Although considered as a personified demon, she falls under the category of spirits turned immortals. She may not have a large following or worship, but she does have a particularly amount of mythological weight and respect to her name.

Cabin Description

The outside of the cabin looks like a log cabin, simple and modesty done with their mother’s symbols engraved in the logs, painted gold to stand out. These symbols are enchanted to pick up arguments if nearby and radiate out waves of temperance to stop the argument. The door is painted a simple gold, clear crystal doorknob and brass knocker. Two statues of their mother stand at either side of the door, holding a bowl in their right hands filled with fire and a bowl in their left that is enchanted to shrink down weapons when placed in there. The cabin is enchanted to block weapons in the interior unless they are wielded by children of Sophrosyne. When entering, you are immediately stepping into a stepped-down living area with cushions spilled about. Down the hallways to your left and right are bedrooms with names written on them in gold paint. The cabin interior is modest, and designed in such a way that you cannot help but feel stronger mentally.

Powers

Offensive

  1. Children of Sophrosyne can break someone's mental restraint and make them turn on their allies. The more people affected, the more it drains the child. Continous usage of this power will fatigue the child.
  2. Children of Sophrosyne can influence and break someone's self-control, making them basically a servant to the child's will. The farther away from the child the mind-controlled is, the more self-control they regain. They cannot expose this power to more than two people and can only hold it in a clear-sight radius of the mind-controlled. The farther away they are, the more energy it drains.

Defensive

  1. Children of Sophrosyne can give semblances of moderation and discretion to people in a ten-yard radius around themselves. However, the more people around them in the set distance, the more energy is drained.
  2. Children of Sophrosyne can radiate a field of energy, covering their skin in such a way that it blocks all mentally-affecting attacks. During this energy field, they can still fight, but it takes more energy and mental focus to push through the energy drain. They can only do this twice a fight.

Passive

  1. Children of Sophrosyne can channel their energy through people that they're touching and restore sobriety. However, the absolute maximum the child can restore is six before their energy runs low.
  2. Children of Sophrosyne can boost someone’s mental restraint and self-control but the boost only stays in place for an hour before fading to leave normal restraint levels.
  3. Children of Sophrosyne are able to read someone’s mental strength, varying from translucent to solid white showing their strength as a glow that only these children can see.
  4. Children of Sophrosyne have a passive aura of temperance around themselves that they can turn on and off at will. This blocks arguing when these children are around and keeps everyone around them nice and calm.

Supplementary

  1. Children of Sophrosyne can keep secrets for a particularly long time, but if they are charm-spoken into telling them, they are forced to tell the secret unless given permission by the person who had told them first.
  2. Children of Sophrosyne are able to block mind-altering abilities, but if it is powerful than their block, then their block is overpowered and the child falls under the control of the ability.
  3. Children of Sophrosyne have a natural ability of communicating with people in a calm tone that keeps those involved calm and clear-headed. They can turn this on and off at will.
  4. Children of Sophrosyne can restore self-control to a group of five or less people if they are under a spell of madness.

3 Months After Character is Made

  1. Children of Sophrosyne can influence the tempers of people around them and bring them to a breaking point that they lose all semblance of self-control, bringing absolute chaos around them. The more people influenced, the faster the child is drained. When the child completely is drained, the influence will be broken.

6 Months After Character is Made

  1. When a child of Sophrosyne gets involved in a fight, they radiate a powerful aura of restraint that prevents enemies from attacking them. They can expand it towards allies, but the more allies protected, the more energy is drained from the radiating child. They can turn it on and off, but can call upon it no more than once per fight.

9 Months After Character is Made

  1. Children of Sophrosyne can shed their skin and turn into a direct glowing personification of modesty, sobriety and self-control, radiating off of themselves. The radiation affects those within twenty-five yards of the child, restoring all semblances of sobreity, modesty, and self-control to those in the specified distance. These effects remain in action until the child changes back to human form, and collapses from overuse of energy. Once channeled, they cannot change in and out of this form and lasts until the child is on the last of their reserves of energy.

  2. Children of Sophrosyne have a unnaturally strong mental restraint.
  3. Children of Sophrosyne will almost always gravitate more towards modest-style clothing and behaviors.
  4. Children of Sophrosyne will usually take longer to get drunk or influenced by drink and drugs due to their mother being the goddess of sobriety.

Personality

Vienna is one of the strongest people, mentally-wise, that people know. She always holds herself to high standards, and tries to never let her self-control falter. Even if she was in middle of a fight, it doesn't matter to her. Vienna controls her emotions extremely well, barely faltering to show a little flash of tears.

She rarely drinks, and when she does, she's extremely careful not to break her limit of moderation. All in all, Vienna is a woman of intense self-control, and always tries to bring out the best in people. She's a loyal friend, but she's also a dangerous enemy to have.

History

Aaron Rhodes was one of those men who had high standards. He never drunk, he never did drugs, and he never broke his own self-control. And it was one of those nights when he refused to go out and get drunk with a few other acquaintances of his that he met Sophrosyne. She was hidden as an undercover officer named Sophia, checking IDs, and it was that interaction that led to them actually breaking their own self-control and taking a very nice romp in the sheets that same night.

Six months later with Aaron working as a debutante tailor, a silver basket appeared in his living room with a tiny baby girl fast asleep in the white silk. A small note was clutched in her fist, written in elegant cursive. Inside, it read, "My dear Aaron, I hate to have to vanish and leave you to take care of our daughter. Her name is Vienna Alyse Elizabeth. Take care of her.
Love, Sophia."

Aaron hesitantly took Vienna into his house, refusing to mention her past or how she came to be. Vienna's first few years of life was pretty normal, well, as normal as it can be with a debutante tailor for a father and already signed up for private schools. Vienna grew up in a life of rich and wealth, which meant that her first monster attack, at the age of 14, came as a pretty big surprise to both. She faced against a hellhound, and before anyone knew what had happened, her sewing needles had lengthened into celestial bronze rapiers, and within ten minutes, the girl had killed the hellhound.

After the attack, another demigod had helped her return home and explained everything that had happened, and tried to convince Aaron to allow Vienna to leave for Camp Half-Blood. He decided to not allow it, and sent the demigod away. The next few years, more monsters attacked Vienna, but she seemed to deal with everything that was sent her way with elegance. When she was 16, she was presented at the Debutante Ball. The next few years were pretty peaceful, with only a few attacks here and there, and before she knew it, her twenty-first birthday rolled around.

A few weeks after her birthday, she received a dream from Sophie, her mother. It was during this dream that she learned everything, that she was a demigoddess, albeit one of a very unusual goddess, and that she needed to head to Camp Half-Blood finally. Two months later, Vienna was crossing the borders of Camp Half-Blood and was claimed as a child of Sophrosyne barely five minutes later. She's looking forward to what Camp brings.
