The story of these twins takes us back to the 1930s, a decade that was a brewing pot for World War II, a war that in the eyes of the mortals seemed to be just like any war. However, this wasn't just any war, the gods were also fighting, in fact one might even hypothesise that it was all started because of a fight between Hades and his brothers Zeus and Poseidon. It might have stayed between the brothers and their children, but one of Hades' children wasn't just any child, he was power hungry and thirsty for conquest, he would make sure the world knew his name and drew in mortals into this war, all for Aryan and German supremacy. With such a huge war, involving so many demigods and mortals, it was hard for other gods not to get involved, pressured to take sides.
At first Boreas took Hades' side, impossible to say why, could have been pressure from his daughter Khione, could have been anything really, but it was this choice that put Boreas in the vicinity of Germany in 1935, when Heinrich Himmler founded the Lebensborn project. Things went swimmingly for awhile, Boreas was rather fond of Stalin, one of Hades' children, partly because one of Boreas' palaces was high up in Siberia, which of course is in Stalin's country. He was also rather fond of a beautiful Polish woman he met while doing work for Hades, she had the most striking blue eyes and the most golden long blonde hair. He started dating her and by 1936 she gave birth to triplets, his children, who had her looks.
He kept his distance of course, per the rules, but would often watch over the house, just to get a glimpse of his children. What he didn't count on was just how far Heinrich Himmler would go to see his program flourish, and started ordering his men to kidnap/take any children with the perfect Aryan traits in the Nazi occupied countries. When Boreas found out his children were taken from their mother, he was furious, but his hands were tied and couldn't intervene directly, so he went to Hades and pleaded for the to be returned to their mother, but he refused to intervene. He could see that Boreas was angry, but he reminded him that he agreed to take Hades' side and that any move against him would be seen as going against his orders.
Boreas continued to grudgingly work for Hades, but soon he found out that Stalin, Hades' own son, was starting to doubt his father and younger brother Hitler, and to not trust them. Stalin was right not to trust them, and in 1941 Hitler went against the non-aggression pact they had and invaded the Soviet Union. At first Hades demanded that Boreas help Germany by keeping the weather in their favour, so they went into Russia without any winter gear, but once they were deep into Russia, and things looked to be going in Germany's favour, Boreas turned on Hades and switched to the Allied side along with Stalin. Boreas let loose the winter winds that would ravage the German army, killing many. Among the dead because of Boreas' betrayal, were 60 demigods, some Hades' children some of other gods that chose the side of Hades, and they all cried for revenge on Boreas' betrayal.
At first Hades debated killing Boreas' children outright, but instead Hades wanted them to really suffer, and Boreas. So he made sure that Boreas' triplets went into the care of one of his surviving children, even taking his last name. He figured seeing Boreas' kids raised by a son of Hades would be a nice touch, but also cursed the, that when they turned 18 they would have to serve for 60 years helping to guard the fields of punishment. It would be hot there, from the fires, far from the cold that he knew Boreas' children loved so much, a year for every demigod that died because of Hades' betrayal.
The war came to an end in 1945 of course, and the demigod watching over them fled Europe to Argentina with a lot of other former Nazi's fleeing prosecution. The boys were raised there, brought up speaking Spanish, German and English. Their guardian of course couldn't risk going to America, as he was wanted for war crimes, so he kept them in Argentina with him, never sending them to camp. Their guardian taught them to fight any monsters that came around, and the boys learned to depend on each other for that, fighting together like one. They were always stronger when they fought together, even though they'd sometimes bicker like typical brothers and had their own identities quite separate from each other just as much as they had one identity together as well. Their guardian hid the secret from them, of their fates when they turned 18.
On their 18th birthday their guardian made up an excuse to get the boys into the underworld, he told them he was going to, but once the boys were into the fissure their guardian had made (being a child of Hades and all), he sealed it up behind them. It was there that Hades found them and told them of the past, of what their punishment for their father's betrayal. Hades trapped them just inside the entrance to the fields of punishment, forced to guard it from anyone escaping, they were stuck miserable, hot and ageing for 60 years. Through other souls, they learned things about the world above the, how things were changing, though many of the souls in the fields of punishment were quickly sent made from their constant punishments.
Finally their punishment ended, well it was never really their punishment, but either way they had little choice in the matter. With no family, no friends, and getting help from their father not even a choice, after a few months of being out on their own, they made their way to camp. They figured at least there they would have shelter and help from other demigods. Upon getting there Boreas officially claimed them, hoping that by doing so they would realise he did still love them. He also sent all sorts of goodies into their rooms in the Boreas cabin when he knew they were headed there, as he knew their punishment ended this year, he had some of his nymphs keeping an eye on the known entrances/exits out of Hades.
