"If one is truly talented,

they won't be insecure enough to need to show it off."

Personality
One of the rare demigods to have known about his parentage from a very young age, Max grew up with the ultimate challenge of humility, having to keep the largest secret a kid could ever imagine, while being a competitive athlete. Blessed with far above average athleticism and a natural urge to want to win, Max is a perfectionist and is very enthusiastic about all types of sports. He is extremely competitive when it comes to everything, and struggles with he "everyone's a winner" concept. Max is very social and makes friends very easily. He has a laid back personality. At his old school, Max was the most popular kid in his grade. Max often acts like a flirt, but would only want a sincere relationship. Max is extremely humble, and knows that if it wasn’t for his body, athleticism, and demigod blood, life would have been very different for him. He acts like he hates it when people complement him, but actually loves it. Now at camp though, he can finally be himself, but this has made him extremely cocky and prideful, sometimes, too overconfident for his own good.

However, even though Max acts quite overconfident around other demigods, he means well. His main flaw is that his self esteem is directly linked to his athletic accomplishments and other achievements. At first he may come off as an ass, but if you get to know him, you will realize that he is actually quite modest, just simply caught up in the fact that he has never been able to really try at anything, because he had to keep the fact that he was a demigod a secret int he outside world his entire life. He isn't the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to any sort of intellectual discussion, but his physical prowess makes up for this, or so he likes to think. Recently, Max has been promoted to counsellor of the Nike cabin, and this is new title is getting to his head.
History

Max’s father Harold Charriot was a professional boxer is the Summer Olympic games. Harold only won the gold medal once. That year, after he won, he went to a bar with a few boxing friends of his. There, he met a woman in a golden dress. She knew who he was right away, as if she knew he would be there. They started talking about his boxing match and sports in general. The woman seemed really into them, even more than he was. After a couple drinks, Harold took her up to his hotel room. Harold would wake up the next morning, to find her gone. She returned nine months later, with a one day old baby boy, at one of his boxing matches. He saw he with a child in the crowd and became extremely distracted. His opponent hit him with an uppercut to the jaw, however this somehow caused his opponent to lose balance and fall over. Max returned to his locker room victorious. There, he would find a basket with a baby boy in it, as well as a note from Nike, explaining who she was, and how she made him win the boxing match when he became distracted by her in the crowd. Being a demigod of Ares, himself, he believed the note without a second thought. The third item in the basket besides Max and the note was a small black box, containing a celestial bronze men’s ring, with a picture of a pair of wings and the words άκρη της νίκης (edge of victory) engraved on them. The note would also explain that when worn by a child of Nike, the ring would turn into a rare and useful weapon when the Max takes it off.

Harold stopped boxing in order to raise Max as a single parent in New York. He also researched everything he could about Greek mythology, especially Nike, wanting to know as much about his son’s mother as possible. (He had only limited knowledge of the demigod world and greek myths despite being a demigod.) Because Harold knew that monsters can “smell” demigods and will come after them and attack them, and was scared out of his mind during his first monster attack, Harold decided to raise Max so that Max was aware of what he was, so he could defend himself from the inevitable. Max grew up extremely athletic and was always one of the most popular kids in his grade, but always felt like a part of him was missing by having a Greek goddess as a mother that he couldn’t tell his friends about. Max wore the ring his mother had gotten him constantly, as it was his only connection to her, but was always too afraid to see what would happen if he took it off.

Max’s father was always protective of Max, but knowing that Max was more powerful than he would ever be, figured that the best way to protect him would be to train with him. Starting in second grade, Harold taught his son boxing and hand to hand combat every day before school, took him to daily fencing lessons after school, and when those were done they would go to the archery range together. Max and his dad formed an extremely close bond, training together all of the time. However, in second grade, Max's ADHD and Dyslexia became more apparent, causing him to struggle in school (specifically English), but he pushed through and recieved Cs in English, history, and math and As in his other subjects. By the time he was ten, he was the top boxer from New York in his age group, and was nationally ranked.

Max’s first encounter with a monster came when he was twelve. He was in the locker room having just finished a basketball game. Max knew about his protector, another boy on his basketball team and a friend as well as a saytr, (Max's father figuered out that he was saytr and told Max) however he and the rest of the team had already left. Being the captain, Max decided to stay after the game to practice for the playoffs, which were coming up in a week. Max was attacked by two harpies, who would jump him. Instinctively, having trained for this moment his whole life, and done extensive research on every kind of monster out there (thanks to his dad's obsession over Greek Myths ever since he met Nike), Max elbowed the harpy who had attacked him from behind, put her in a headlock, and with strength he didn’t even know he had, threw her against the lockers, denting them. He pinned the other harpy up against the wall and took off the ring he recieved from his mother. The ring would transform into an Celestial Bronze sword. Even though he was surprised and shocked by what had just happened, Max kept focused on the fight. He decapitated the harpy and it turned to dust. The second harpy had recovered from being thrown and it charged at Max. Max swung his sword, which the harpy dodged by flying backwards. She flew up to the ceiling, and the dove down at Max, claws stretched out. Max dove to the side, recovered from his dive, and stabbed the harpy in the back.

Even though Max knew what he was, his father had told him this was going to happen to him eventually, and he was ready, Max was scared out of his mind. He didn’t know what to do, and knew that if his dad or his protector (his friend and basketball teammate) found out about the attack, he would be forced to go to Camp Half-blood and separated from his father. Max decided not to tell anybody about the attack and went on with his life, pretending it never happened. He went home from the game that day as if all was normal.

Max’s next encounter with monsters took place a year and six months later at Madison Square Garden, the day after his thirteenth birthday, when he was at a professional basketball game with his dad and his friend Brian (his protector). His father, unable to see through the mist, had learned everything he possibly could about it in order to keep his son safe. He had learned that Hellhounds tend to look like poodles through the mist. Seeing three dogs, running down the aisles towards them, he quickly pointed them out to Brian, who confirmed they were Hellhounds.

Brian took out a dagger (which he sneaked into the arena somehow) and Max took off his ring, and his ring transformed into its sword form. Max’s father tackled one of the Hellhounds, wrestling with it, struggling to dodge its bite. Meanwhile, Max was struggling to keep the other two Hellhounds away from him. Max heard Brian yell something at him, while he was fighting off another Hellhound on the other side of their seats. Max’s father broke the leg of the hellhound he was fighting, and it winced in pain. He gave him an uppercut to the mouth and ran over to his son in the other aisle. Together, Brian and Max killed the two Hellhounds. Max’s father and Brian wanted to take Max to Camp Half Blood then, as the crowd had stopped watching the game and was staring at them. As much as Max protested, saying he wanted to live a normal life for a little while longer, he was in no shape to argue. He was exhausted, and being stared at by hundreds of people. He reached camp that evening.

Now at camp (age fifteen), Max has decided to make the best of it.

  1. Children of Nike are able to channel their energy with and create a link to an object, can be a weapon or a sports related item, which causes their next attack with this object to be two times more powerful. Once used, it can not be used again on the object for the remainder of the fight and it drains the user somewhat.
  2. Children of Nike are able to clap their hands so hard and fast due to their enhanced strength that it sends a small shock-wave out. The shock-wave generates enough force to knock an opponent off their feet and possibly leaves bruises on their skin.

Defensive

  1. Children of Nike can become resistant to all types of physical attacks for a short time.
  2. Children of Nike are able to increase their speed and stealth in short bursts, making them faster than most and undetectable for a short time. However, they cannot have a weapon drawn so the speed is purely for evasion.

Passive

  2. Children of Nike have innate reflexes which allow them to fight and dodge quickly.
  3. Children of Nike have the ability to predict the path of projectiles and dodge them, as well as identifying the weak points of opponents. This ability does not always work and could mislead the user, leaving them open to attacks.
  4. Children of Nike wield an amazing amount of willpower and fighting spirit, allowing them to partially resist any attempt to control their mind and resist any urge to surrender or quit.

Supplementary

  1. Children of Nike have the inhuman ability to leap great distances and perform dodge-rolls with ease, which can aid the user with dodging and attacking.
  2. Children of Nike have the ability to empower strength upon nearby allies and instill fear upon nearby enemies with a deafening war cry.
  3. Since their mother was depicted as a winged goddess, children of Nike can sprout wings for a short time, this enables them to fly; the longer they maintain this state, the more energy it drains. They must rest between flights and cannot make long distance traveling without resting often. However the wings are vulnerable to injuries and magic; they can also be customized to the user’s preference.
  4. Children of Nike can create a false illusion of what their opponent needs to do to achieve victory for a short time. This can cause an opponent to attempt foolish strategies that work against them and gives the user a chance to attack or flee.

Children of Nike can draw power from all the victorious actions and desires they’ve seen, felt, or committed in their lives and become an become an embodiment of victory for a short time, in this state they are as twice as stronger and faster than before and are immune to all attacks.
