Mercury Blackbourne was quite the calculated woman. She always looked to be that extra step ahead, but of course, imagine her expression when she became pregnant. An occurrence she never planned for. It's not a difficult explanation to why it got her by surprise.
It was but a calm night out for Mercury and a few friends of hers. They were out stargazing, and rather late into the night too. Of course, someone figured it would be amusing to spike the orange juice that a few of them were drinking... including Mercury. She got drunk, and it doesn't take a genius to figure out the rest.
The next morning, she wakes up, in her bed no less, but she felt sore. What more or less happened: Mercury got drunk enough to the point where she just couldn't stand straight whatsoever. She passed out not too long after, and it just so happens that an inconspicuous passer-by finds her. Of the little she will remember, was a handsome guy bringing her home. She won't remember that she had a one night stand, much less that the "handsome guy" wasn't even a guy, but rather the goddess Pandia in a very authentic disguise.
Either way, she was pregnant, with a child, that she couldn't be certain if it was hers... but was the bad ending ever an option? Not at all. As much as she sometimes doesn't like the burden of it, a child is a child, and it deserves better. Come October 25th, 1999, Mina Matilda Blackbourne entered the world.
Life was pretty normal for both Mina and Mercury, despite the fact that Mercury was a single mother. Then again, she seemed to be handling it pretty well. Mina learnt of her ADHD and mild dyslexia around the age of 7, but she managed to get by life without overly much issues (bar the occasional looking like an idiot in pre-school class sometimes, because she fell behind her class a couple times). It was only about four years later that stranger things started to happen.
Mina was at a close friend's birthday party. What she didn't know... her close friend was a demigod, and several of the adults there were demigods too. Things got ugly when some rather uninvited guests - ahem, five Giant Scorpions alongside three Pit Scorpions - decided to show up. Mina and her friend tried to hide, while the adult demigods went off to fight them, but alas, it wasn't until one of them got critically injured, along with all the others getting some form of intermediate bruising and injury that the fight was won. In the midst of the chaos, Mina too was injured, but nothing that couldn't be patched up easily.
It was only a matter of months later that Mina discovered her demigoddess heritage after receiving a single letter from Pandia. In the years to follow, Mina was attacked by Stymphalian Birds at age 12, Giant Scorpions at age 13, and Fire-Breathing Horses at age 14. It was rough to fight them off, and rarely did Mina escape those encounters without a bruise or two, but what can you do. It was two months after her encounter with the Fire-Breathing Horses that she was found by a satyr and brought to Camp.
However, Mina wasn't keen on being a full-time Camper at the time, so she did time in Camp over the summer. It wasn't the best spending of her time, but it did help her out, since she did get the precious training she needed, plus she was greeted with a gift from one of the very demigods who were around at the time of her first monster attack; a Celestial Bronze single-handed sword and dagger.
Give or take four years of that, and Mina had finally decided to be a full-time camper. Just around the time she turned 18 too. Now she's settling into camp life... permanently.
