Poised, Kind hearted, and Gentle are the first notable characteristics a person would see when initially meting Valerie Fairchild. She isn't one to believe her existence means more or less than anyone else's and treats everyone with respect, up until they have proven they aren't worthy of it. As a result, Individuals taking a liking to Valerie on the spot isn't a rare occurrence. Adding on, Valerie likes to help people in need but, is well aware of her self worth and to not let people take advantage of her in anyway. She has a confident aura to herself, one that isn't overly so and
Valerie's birth was a strange one, to say the least. Not only did she die in her mother's womb but, her mother so happened to be Asteria, a Greek Goddess. Who ever heard of a goddess having a miscarry and for only one of her children? Oh? Did i not mention that Valerie wasn't though only one in the Goddess' womb? Well, she wasn't... She also had a twin sister who so happened to thrive and make it into the land of the living. Valerie made it there too but, the events leading up to it were a bit different, let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Sirius Belfrey was the name of Valerie's mortal parent though, she'd never hear the name in here life - considering she was never given to him. Another thing she'd never know is how her true mother, Asteria and he had met. It was a short affair... and a forbidden one at that. She was an astronomy professor and he her student and from there i'm pretty sure you can guess the rest. They fell in love or, maybe it was just something out of lust. Either way, things furthered and one day the duo got caught. Naturally Asteria got fired, though i doubt she even cared, and Sirius got expelled. Whereas Asteria was able to move on from the incident, considering her godly status, Sirius had a bit more of a struggle and also wasn't too happy when the reason for his expulsion had disappeared. What else was she to do though? Now, the goddess Asteria was pregnant and with twins as a matter of fact. Sirius had just gotten expelled and from what Asteria could tell, he had no steady income. She didn't want to scare the living hell out of him.
Like any normal goddess, Asteria went back to Olympus, ready to carry her children to term. She was quiet happy and hoped that when the time came, Sirius would be ready to care for them. However, something strange happened about a few weeks into her pregnancy. One of her children died in the womb? Some would argue that it wasn't even possible. How could a goddess lose one of her children? She was a dam goddess. Regardless of any arguments, Asteria had lost all of her children and was devastated, what mother wouldn't be? What else could she do? Even if the child wasn't born would it be considered direct interference if she brought it back to life? She couldn't take the risk, with Zeus already being angry with the other out of control god/goddess'. That's why, even though the children wouldn't be considered hers anymore, she went to her daughter Hecate. It was there that she asked her daughter to take the soul of the deceased child and put it into her own womb, carrying it the rest of term and giving birth to the child. It was the only thing Asteria could think of and as it was a favor asked from her mother, Hecate agreed - she'd carry the child for the remainder of the term.
Now, as some might assume, Hecate would hand over the child to her mother and that was that. Asteria would then deliver both children to Sirius and from there he'd have to take care of them however, like any women would - Hecate grew attached to the life living inside of her. When it came time to deliver the children, She couldn't bare to hand over her child to a man she didn't know - especially a man who seemed to have no steady income as of late. How would he be able to care for two children? Asteria of course, saw this coming and since Hecate was kind enough to give the child a chance at life, Asteria decided to let Hecate do what she wanted with the child - who's name was Valerie. Hecate, of course decided it would be best to only give Sirius one of the twins which of course was Victoire and Valerie... well she was given to someone who Hecate though would give her a good life. Little did Hecate know that Circe, who she had given Valerie too, would cause her daughter more pain then anyone else.
Not many demigods can say that they grew up with a goddess, nor can they say that they were trained by the goddess themselves. Valerie is one of those few and in the beginning it was quite the life style. While Circe might not have had her resort and spa anymore she did have another island where she stayed and just like before, there was an abundant of girls roaming about the island. Some where demigod and some mortals, some were even nymphs and they all lived on the island with Circe. She was the one they truly worship as she had saved them all from horrid lives. some even sought her out in hope to start a new life. For Valerie though, it was decided she'd live on the island with Circe and train with the goddess in many aspects.
Years passed since her birth and like any normal child, Valerie grew and grew - learning the usual schooling subject from other women on the island, even attending classes each day. She played and learned the basic of spell casting, even if she couldn't cast any spells herself and of course, she learned of her mother and her heritage from the Greek gods. Some might say it was dangerous for her to know at such a young age but, with the protection of a goddess what could go wrong? For the time being, Valerie's life was good - great even. Even when she grew into her teenage years and was attacked for the first time, though the attack was orchestrated by her trainers.
It was when she was 13 and by this point Valerie had already began to prosper in her abilities. She had been studying on them since she was a small girl after all and because of this, Circe thought she was ready. A hellhound was her opponent and a smaller one at that, a full grown one would have been much to dangerous. The details of the battle were cliche. A demigod against a monster and with some time the monster burst into dust and the demigoddess coming out victorious. Aside from monster attacks every year or so, Valerie's life was still great. She was Safe, Healthy, and though she didn't need it at the moment, Circe had created a way for the girls on the island to live with her forever. Never ageing, though the details of this method were kept secret from the younger girls.
As the years when on, so did Valerie. By now, she was 18 and it was at this time that she began to wonder of the outside world. It was only natural and of course, she did know of it. She studied not only in the history of magic but also of the world outside of Circe's island. The outside world intrigued her and naturally she wanted to explore it. Sadly, it was against Circe's wishes and the idea was shut down many times. Little did Valerie know, a small piece of the outside world would soon land on the island and change her world.
It was like any normal day, Valerie had woken up and went about her day and by it's end, she ended up on the beach - gazing at the sunset. It was a routine coming out here, watching the waves crash against the sand and the sky change color. Something was different though... this time, instead of a clear empty ocean, Valerie saw the small silhouette of a small boat. How was that possible though? Circe had enchanted the island so that no being of any kind could sail here without her permission. Enchantments aside, the boat was drifting straight to the island and in a matter of time, it was hitting the soft damp sand. Valerie rushed over, curious as to who it could be and well... she was quite surprised to find an unconscious boy.
Some hours later, after Valerie had dragged him out and onto softer dry land, the boy had woken up. His head was a bit fuzzy but, he saw Valerie sitting just a few feet away, looking deeply into a fire that lit the night.
"Who are you? Where am i?" The boy asked and with this the daughter of Hecate's head snapped up. It was from then that she began to ask him questions, and the two got to conversing. Turns out, the boy was a son of Hades - a demigod himself. As for how he'd ended up here, he had no clue. He remembered setting off on a quest for, of all goddess', Hecate and he somehow ended up here. It was all so confusing and Valerie didn't know what to do... All she knew was that Circe could not know of this boys arrival on the island and so, she told Alek to stay hidden. He did as she said and as fate would have it, the two fell into a whirlwind of romance. Alek had settled himself into a cave near the beach and with the help of Valerie, he was able to get by with food and other necessities. This is where Valerie fell for him. After visiting him day after day, night after night, and talking about his world traveling Valerie came to fall for him and he her.
The love was short termed though as Alek went missing one day, leaving a distraught Valerie with no information on where he had gone. Something was off though considering all his belongings were still in his cave but, the daughter of Hecate had nothing to go off of and tried to move on from the whole situation. It wasn't till one day when she went searching for Circe, to simply converse with her, that Valerie stumbled upon a door she was never allowed to enter. It had always been a rule growing up and not many people aside from the goddess were allowed inside, though, this time Valerie's curiosity got the best of her and she pushed passed the doors quietly. Venturing deeper, making turn after turn and even going down a few flight of stair, the daughter of Hecate finally emerged into a massive cavern like room. There were cages everywhere and upon closer observation, Valerie finally noticed what was inside of them. It was loads of men, most dead some alive and among those men was Alek. The sight was horrific and she couldn't wrap her head around any idea as to why they'd be here.
Suddenly, Valerie heard the familiar voice of Circe behind her. Quickly she turned around and bombarding the goddess with questions. Circe was rather calm about the whole thing and with no remorse shown in her expression, she explained the whole situation to Valerie. Turns out, the men's life force was being sucked away in order for the island to prosper the way it did. It also allowed the to stay young and healthy. Mortified by the whole idea, Valerie's eyes began to tear up, they'd been stuck on Alek the whole time. She couldn't imagine what her love was going through and all she wanted was to get him out. She pleaded for Circe to let the men go, to change her ways but, the goddess denied her request, this being the moment Valerie no longer saw Circe as family. Her views on the goddess had gone out the door but, this didn't stop Valerie from keeping up the act and asking for Alek's freedom.
It took a lot of pleading, begging, and promises from Valerie until Circe finally agreed to let Alek sail off the island and leave Valerie behind. The demigoddess didn't miss a beat once Alek's cage had opened and the boy stumbled out of it, barley able to stand. At this point, Circe had disappeared off to some other part of the island - not bothering with the situation between Valerie and her beloved. Some time later, Valerie had finally helped Alek back to the beach and once there, she prepared a small boat Circe promised she'd let sail past the borders. Just as she was about to place Alek inside and push him off, the son of Hades grabbed her hand weakly and forced out words. He asked her to come with him, to which Valerie argued. No way would Circe allow Valerie to leave the island now, not with the information she knew. It was after a lot of convincing and some spell casting on Valerie's part that she decided to go with Alek. The plan was for the duo to slip past the border while Valerie cast a spell beforehand to hopefully trick the goddess she was still on the island. The plan was actually effective, lucky for Valerie, and the two sailed past the borders into open water successfully. Sadly though, as they sailed, Alek's life force was too weak and he slipped away before the boat sailed onto the beach of camp half-blood. They were greeted by a hoard of campers who took Alek's body to be buried and Valerie to live in the Hecate cabin.

The transformation can last as long as the user wishes it to, but the longer they hold their form the more it drains them.
