Let me tell you my story on how I lived my life and got to camp. It all started when I was born with an outburst of cry from Olympus. My mother personally gave me to my father, John Lumenight, on the next hour of my birth. My father gratefully accepted me as his daughter but no smile or any expression at all crossed his face and mother left us in dust. Actually, father took care of me on all he could, but it wasn’t enough. I grew very cold at him the moment when I asked him about my mother but kept silent. It was just wasn’t really enough. In academics, I always had great standards when it comes to recitation and practicals only. I mean, I do excel when my teacher had lectures and discussions. And this made me fail on exams since I cannot read. Words magically float in the air making my stupid vision blurry. When I was on the third grade, I met Elliose Ploutone on which I share weirdness and dyslexia that made us friends on our tight friendship we had.
When both of us turn 12, my one and only friend unexpectedly left without any notice and this made me wonder. Few weeks after my twelfth birthday, things turned a bit really weird and unbelievable. Laistrygonian giants with flaming balls attacked me at school in the afternoon making everyone panic about the fire. Though these monsters from what I had learned are giants with balls of flame, I kept pacing myself. I’m just a twelve year old kid! And they attack me of all people? Impossible. I was about to move a muscle when their bodies went rigid then turned into dust. On each pile of dirt lays a single bronze knife I looked around and saw a shadow figure of a girl then disappeared. Of course I took the knives though this would make me go on a detention. Then something fresh happened. The school bell rung and the students and teachers resumed their activities as if nothing happened. So I just guessed it was just a dream since I’m really tired. But I stuffed the knives on my bag and went home just in case it wasn’t just a dream.
I arrived at my house in New York and slammed my room’s door shut as my father said, “Welcome back Willy-Wills.” Did I mention I hate it when he calls me that? Well now you know. On my room, I examined my souvenirs. And for the rest of the hours, I spent it by studying the knives. In the evening, my father told me that we will be going out to eat our dinner on my favorite restaurant. Another tool for me to like him. So I dressed up and equipped my knives just in case.
It was not only until then when I cannot hold it anymore. “I’m a demigod am I not? As to what I read in mythology, half-bloods or demigods like Hercules and Perseus gets attacked by monsters, don't they? Laistrygonians is also stated in the book. They look exactly the same as it was described.” the words came out of my mouth without my permission. Father looked shocked at first but he quickly said, “You must be tired, Willow. Come on let’s go home.” But I held back. “Am I?” I pressed on. He now looked guilty that he cannot hide a secret from me forever. “Willow, you should not know this. Now is not the right time but since you already knew it, I have no choice but to bring you to camp.” I thought of it at first as a joke. Camp? I thought. Why would I need a camp? “What camp?” I asked. “Camp Half Blood, the only safe place for children like you. Come now we should not waste a minute.” He said. Is this some kind of joke he invented to make me smile or laugh in front of him? But he looked deadly serious so I followed him to the car.
I don’t where all of this came from. I kept on asking him questions about the camp and who I am while he sped the car up and kept shushing me saying “The more you know, the more your scent overpowers.” I don’t know what he exactly means about the scent when I didn’t even put a perfume.
We stopped when a man was waving and yelling for the car to stop in the center of the road. I don’t know if I could’ve vomit or get shocked because the man was not wearing any pants but he wore a furry coat in his hind legs. That’s it I must be dreaming, I thought at first. The satyr hopped on the car and told my father that he is a protector at Camp Half Blood then took the wheels as my father made a flying kiss at me and rented another car from a nearby Auto Shop.
The satyr drove me to Camp Half Blood at top speed but the car stopped because the car went out of gasoline. The satyr cursed then we set on foot. From the hood of the car, he took out a wooden bow and a sheath of five arrows. Pretty cheap and don’t ask me how he knew it. He handed me the weapons and I slung them on my shoulder.
It was a nice quiet night when it was disturbed when a terrible roar can be heard from a charging Minotaur. The satyr collapsed at the sight of it. Seriously, is he a protector or not? Why did he even faint? The sidestepped easily as if nothing happened when the monster charged on me. I kept on changing my directions to tire it off when I remembered the bow, arrows and the knives. I drew my bow and shot an arrow at the monster. It missed. Two, three, four, five. Seriously, my aim is pretty low but as I threw my knife, it seems that I’m mistaken. It hit accurately but all it did was made the monster groan in pain. I threw the knives one after another making the monster disintegrate. And that’s it. I walked down the hill leaving my lousy protector near the fields and went inside the big blue house. And that is when I knew that I’m a demigod when my mother’s holographic symbol was swirling above my head.
